			<title>Tritons on fire in the rain!</title>
			<link>http://www.greenwichtritons.org.uk/tritons-on-fire-in-the-rain.html</link>
			<description>
All for a Cause.....

This weekend in the wilds of Surrey, Louise Walker was racing at Dorney Lake in the HSBC Olympic distance triathlon. The weekend was a company challenge in aid of a raising money for schools in Asia. Barclays bank led the fray for the women, with Louise taking in a 2nd place finish in her AG and 9th overall! Despite the fact that its not been long since Lou was off with injury, she had a scorcher of a run in 44:28. With Barclays on the move in the company tri challenge and Louise's running going from strength to strength, it won't be long before we see her medalling again.

Up in Henley, we had a challenge of a different sort and for a different cause. The inaugural Challenge Henley took place with two Tritons braving the Ironman distance and two taking on the Henley half. Conditions did not for an auspicious start for the morning, however, despite this fact we had two medals home for the club. James Donaldson and Gavin Rand battled it out to the finish with James just edging ahead for a 2nd place finish in AG and Gavin a 3rd place finish in AG.

As for the Ironcrew, Simon Carter and John Sheliker, well everyone has their own reasons for Ironman, and it takes a determined individual to stay the course. Our one gloved wonder, Simon, started well on the swim, following it with a solid bike. John was not far behind with a steady swim and keeping focus on the bike, getting ready for the run. Despite various mishaps for both, it was an impressive result and Ironman virgins no more! Congratulations to you both on your efforts.

			<title>Clash of the Tritons Makes a Splash!</title>
			<link>http://www.greenwichtritons.org.uk/clash-of-the-tritons-2011-results.html</link>
			<description>
As Clash day approached, The Clash Team and Greenwich Tritons couldn't help but get a few pre-race nerves themselves! The final week was a flurry of activity as start times were computed, race day jobs allocated, goodie bags stuffed and cook books dusted off all throught the Tritons camp.

In the main field, despite a grey start to the day, 165 adults made it to the line and a record 30 children competed. Even our sponsors were keen not to miss out on the action as both PhysioActive (physioactive.com) and RunBreeze (runbreeze.com) went head to head! Chris Boynes and his son Luke from PhysioActive, long-term supporters, took part in the race with son winning the swim but father pipping him on the run! For Ironman Jamie Smalley, co-founder of RunBreeze, who ran a 16:41 run split, the Clash must have been a walk in the park. RunBreeze sells high quality technical clothing at low prices and two lucky 'clashers' won a stylish trisuit in the spot prize draw! Not to forget thetrilife.co.uk who donated a fab goodie bag with visor, race belt, swim hat and bottle to the category winners! The Legal Director and Buenos Aires Cafe-Blackheath and Greenwich-are also proud to sponsor The Clash!

The race was won by 15 year old Nathan Marsh from Sevenoaks Tri Club in a time of 22:54, closely followed by Sarah Gailey from Ful-On-Tri, who smashed the women's course record with a time of 24:10! In the children's race, Henry Choong took the boys honours in 12:21 while Leah Melvin was the first girl across the line in a time of 12:49.

12 Tritons took on the challenge of swim, run, marshal, with a some speedy transitions from running gear to high vis vest. Debbie 'Biscuit' Coyle was out of the pool first, determined to get back to her post on the refreshment stand, but club Sprint Champ Freddie Sumption was hot on her heels and crossed the line first in 26:15. Dr Malc was in tip top shape and finished ahead in 26 minutes dead. Chairman Ed, Gav, Jim 'Plum', Lozza, 'Jimi', Louise J. and newbies Tom Ralph and Chris Morgan didn't hold back on the race before joining the rest of the Tritons massive out on the field cheering on all the competitors and doing everything from handing out rubber bands and cups of water to counting lanes, paparazzi-style photography and everything inbetween.

Most of all, brownie points to every single competitor, whether you are a Clash veteran, London League contender, multisport novice or on a family day out, it was a pleasure for the Tritons to host the 8th annual Clash of the Tritons and we'd be delighted if you came back next year after being inspired by GB's olympic success!

			<title>Simply the Best!</title>

Milton Keynes Triathlon

The international honours just keep on coming! Vernon Thomas has been putting the pedal to the metal, following a 4th place finish in Pontevedra, Spain, at the European Championships, with a National title this past weekend in Milton Keynes! Vern beat his closest competitor by nearly 3 minutes and posted the fastest bike and run split in his category for a 2:39:35 finish. Vern has had an amazing season thus far, making this the year of the double, double, where he has worn both hats as National Duathlon Champion in Ireland and as National Standard Distance Champion in Milton Keynes. You are indeed a jack of all trades and truely the master of all. Chapeau!

The results don't stop there however, as the same day, in the same race, Rob Baker improved his 2:10:01 time from Dambuster Triathlon, where he placed 6th in his AG, with a new PB of 2:04:31 at the National AG Champs! In an extremely competitive field of athletes, Rob not only set a new PB of nearly 1.5 minutes, but also placed 5th in his AG and 24th overall!

Returning into the triathlon fold was Jamie Beecham, still on the mend from injury, clearing a 10th place finish in AG and a top 30 finish overall, close behind Rob in 2:05:49. Excellent work boys! Truely inspirational.

Virgin London Triathlon

 Congratulations to all who took part in London Triathlon last weekend. Simon McGarry and Debbie Coyle had a blinder, each taking 1st place in their repsective categories! Both Simon and Debbie posted personal bests, Debbie boasting a 1:01:48 bike split for a 2:13:48 finish, with Simon going under the hour in 1:59:17. Kelly Jorgensen finished just behind Debbie in 2:19:17, for a 17th place finish in AG and John Sheliker posting a 2:41:19 in preparation for Challenge Henley next month. Well done all!

			<title>International Honours</title>

Congratulations to 15 year old Kate Curran who has been selected as
travelling reserve for the GB Youth Relay team at the
2011 ETU European Championships. In recent years this event has been the
starting point for many of Britain&amp;rsquo;s top triathletes, including the Brownlee
brothers and Holly Avil. One of only 4 athletes selected, Kate is currently
lying 4th in the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series and
sealed her place on the team with a brilliant 3rd place at the
qualifying race in Porthcawl. As one of the youngest competitors in her
category, Kate will be eligible for selection in 2012 and 2013 so a bright
future beckons. Well done Kate!

			<title>Mr. Tom </title>
			<link>http://www.greenwichtritons.org.uk/mr.-tom.html</link>
			<description>
Whether you are the tall or the small, the win is no less courageous. Congratulations to Simon McGarry (Sprint) and Tom Simpson (Tristar) who were crowned the overall series winners of the Hever Evening Sprint Series! In the third and final race, Tom just edged out another competitor in a thrilling finish, chasing down his closest rival on the run before pulling clear in the final stretch to win by a couple of seconds in a PB of 29:49. In the Sprint race, Simon McGarry also bagged a PB, taking second place on the night on the back of an amazing swim and storming bike leg, crossing the line in 1:10:15. Jon Williams was not far behind taking 13th place in 1:20:03. In the Super Sprint race, Ed Simpson rounded off a good evening for family Simpson taking 4th place overall and 2nd in the vets category! Well done troops!

In his third race in 7 days, Tom Simpson maintained his great run of form on Saturday, taking 5th place at the Optima Aquathon,. This year has been a great one for mini Ted so far, and his consistency of form is a credit to his efforts this year. Well done!

On a blustery day in Kent, 6 Tritons decended on the White Oak Leisure Center in Swanley for the 22nd White Oak Triathlon. Thankfully the rain stayed away, but the wind made for tough conditions, particularly on the bike. Matt Winn-Smith proved he is equally at home at Ironman or Sprint distance, leading our club home in a 3rd place overall finish after a storming run! Ed Simpson produced the day's 2nd fastest bike split and crossed the line in 1:24:59 for 7th place whilst fellow vet Simon Sayer turned in a great performance across all 3 disciplines to finish in 39th place in 1:35:45. Julian Spencer-Wood thrashed the opposition in the V60 category, romping home in 1:43:38, to take the victory by over 7 minutes!!! Darren Casserly and Lousie Johnson rounded out the team, heroically battling against the elements to finish in 2:05:49 and 2:13:48 respectively.

Meanwhile, in equally windy west London, James Knowling, Sophia Jansson and Martine Nield headed to the Hillingdon Triathlon. Fresh from her triumph at Ironman Austria, Sophia demonstrated the true meaning of a hard core triathlete by braving the swim sans wetsuit, while birthday girl Martine took the plunge in her first ever tri in her new birthday suit! Our hardy athletes rampaged the course, James leading the Tritons home in a shade under 90 minutes, followed by Sophia in 1:37:57 and Martine in 1:55:56. Well done guys and Happy Birthday Martine!!!
